The need for brain repair is critical when working with children and adults in need of neurological recovery.  Supporting brain derived neurotrophic facor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF) are essential in healing brain dysfunction.  Lion’s mane powder specifically is a promoter of NGF.  Mushroom powders contain many healing properties that are outstanding for daily function and as well as for healing for neurological conditions.  Overall mushrooms offer well-rounded health benefits.

  • Sharpening focus,
  • Boosting the immune system
  • Regenerating brain cells
  • Central Nervous System Repair
Specifically, a few of the mushrooms have gained headlines with direct support for healing the brain.
Lion’s Mane for mental clarity and regenerating brain cells. Lion’s mane is often called the “smart mushroom” because it sharpens mental clarity and reduces brain fog. In other words, lion’s mane can generate new brain cells! In fact, one study found that lion’s mane DOUBLES the growth of brain cells. This is important because the brain’s ability to grow and form new connections between neurons typically declines with age, which may explain why cognitive function worsens in many older adults. Lion’s mane has also been shown to improve mood and help soothe and calm the nervous system. It does this by increasing the function of the hippocampus, a region of the brain that processes memories and emotional responses.
Reishi for supporting cognition and mood Reishi is another mushroom that has significant benefits for cognitive health and mood. It helps calm an overactive nervous system, supports the adrenals, reduces stress and anxiety, boosts antioxidants, and protects the brain in numerous ways. Chronic stress is like kryptonite for brain function, so anything that mitigates the impacts of stress on our brain and nervous system is hugely helpful for cognitive function and mood.
Chaga for protecting the gut-brain axis Chaga also has a remarkable effect on the brain. Chaga upregulates the Nrf2 pathway, which helps to maintain normal brain function as we age. And chaga has been shown to support a healthy microbiome and maintain normal intestinal barrier function. Chaga helps restore normal gut-brain barrier function, strengthen the gut-brain connection, and restore optimal cognitive function and mood.
Mushrooms can be taken with an organic cup of decaf coffee (for adults only), or on its own in warm water.  It can also be taken in capsule form.  I have been taking mushrooms daily in the morning for a couple of years and I enjoy the benefits. I’m excited to be incorporating them into my healing protocols.
CAUTION:   Consider introducing this as an only change and under the guise of a qualified practitioner.
Bringing much light,
Lynn
