Vagus nerve stimulation in children with intractable epilepsy: a randomized controlled trial.

The vagus nerve connects the digestive tract to the brain via the spinal cord.  This study determined that vagus nerve stimulation, also referred to as VNS, reduces seizures up to 50% in nearly 26% of the patients.
