In my ongoing research I recently came across an excellent presentation by Dr. Woeller on “The Role of Microglia Activation and Brain Inflammation in Autism”.  Much of the information that Dr. Woeller shares substantiates the Seven R’s of Brain Healing which I use in my practice.

Dr. Woeller remarks on several potential root causes of immune activation, blood brain barrier penetration and ultimately neuroinflammation.  Notably, clostridium bacterium produces toxins that even though generated in the GI tract travel through the vagus nerve into the cerebellum, the area of the brain that manages motor skills.  Again making an important connection between the vitality of the digestive system and its vital connection to the brain.

One particular clostridium neurotoxin, clostridum tetani, has been detected in numerous peptides associated with epilepsy.  The medical journal can be found here  and is titled “The Peptide Network between Tetanus Toxin and Human Proteins Associated with Epilepsy.”

How to detect Clostridium bacterium? A comprehensive stool analysis may detect the presence of Clostridium, but the Organic Acids Test through Great Plains Laboratory has been more targeted and effective in revealing the levels of bacterium.

Be well,
