Poop transplants (medically referred to as fecal microbiota transplants (FMT)) have been popping up in the medical literature for unique cases, that in the U.S. are not currently approved as standard practice. I’ve published on a FMT successfully stopping 17 years of seizures even though the intention of instituting FMT therapy was to heal Crohn’s disease. This article can be found here.
In this journal “The Effect of Fecal Microbiota Transplantation on a Child with Tourette Syndrome” a 9-year-old boy diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome responded in a dramatic improvement in tic symptoms following a surgical poop transplant (using the fecal of a healthy 14-year-old sample).
The researchers further states that these results are:
suggesting that rebalancing GI microbiota might offer a promising new biological therapy for TS.
This exploratory discovery in using FMT to help resolve this child’s symptoms was conducted in China. I’ve been eagerly awaiting results for FMT in more cases specific to other neurological symptoms, including seizures, and will report as soon as results are published.
Bringing much light,
Lynn
