A medical journal, titled “An unusual case of drug-resistant epilepsy in a child with non-celiac gluten sensitivity” is the first journal identifying that when gluten was removed from a two year old child’s diet, not only did his seizures end, but his speech and focus improved.

“To our knowledge this is the first description of a child with drug-resistant epilepsy, language delay and aphthae in whom a gluten-free diet brought complete resolution of the seizures, normalization of the EEG, and a significant improvement in speech organization, even after the withdrawal of all antiepileptic drugs”.

This child was tested for celiac, IgG and IgE finger prick testing (what I offer) and did not test positive antibodies to gluten.  He was placed on three anti-epileptic medications and his seizures remained.  This child also showed symptoms that included , white sores in the mouth, hyperactivity, poor language and socialization.  A gluten- free diet was recommended.

Within two weeks a reduction of seizures and an improvement in language and socialization occurred.  After a few months the AED’s were reduced and the child’s EEG normalized.  At a 2 year follow up the child remained seizure free and  all other behaviors normalized.

This is extremely interesting and supportive research demonstrating the neurological impact of wheat consumption.

Much light,
