Much of my work is based on the premise that there are systemic imbalances that create a brain dis-ease, including seizures.  My research over the past two years has understood that the brain is primarily immune, consisting of microglia.  So my approach is simply to reduce the brain’s immune response by identifying foods and infections that create an immune response.  In addition I focus on identifying supporting nutritional deficiencies, inflammation, impaired detoxification, impaired mitochondria function, deficient sleep patterns and a compromised digestive system that have resulted from the immune response.

A few days ago, research was released from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland that revealed that they ‘identified’ a protein referred to as “microglia” that impacts the immune function of the brain.  They further state that they found raised levels of microglia in the brains of those individuals that experience temporal lobe epilepsy (a seizure disorder that often does not respond to medications).  The researchers data will be further explored in an attempt to develop another anti-seizure medication that they are hoping will address more of the source of the seizures.  In other words, my research has proven to be correct.

This recent data further substantiates that the brain is immune and everything should be done to reduce the brain’s immune response and the inflammation that results. Yes, there may be a future drug on the horizon to help address the immune function.  But for now, there is much that can be done nutritionally to address those sources that are raising the brain’s immunity and altering the biochemistry.

Again the Seven R’s of Brain Healing are:

  1.  Replenish basic brain nutrition with an adequate diet consisting of real food only, high good quality fats and proteins.
  2. Revive the gastrointestinal tract (remove infections, repair the lining, replenish the good flora).
  3. Reduce brain oxidative stress which results from chronic inflammation
  4. Repair neurons
  5. Remove neurotoxins
  6. Restore Neurotransmitters
  7. Relieve Brain Stress.

Regardless of the type of seizures that one be experiencing, it’s important to reduce the brain’s immune response.

Much light,
Lynn
